The Desert Willow

The blazing sun
Beats the barren desert
Alone I stand
The scorching sand
I had not flowers
For the branches withered bare
Where my life began
To grow it cannot

Every new season
The rains came
The serpent took refuge
I drank the wine
I prayed for life
New blooms appeared

Unknown to me
The Santa Anna winds
whistled like a train
So fierce they carried
My blues away

By the winds of change
I’ve grown anew
For the creatures of
The forest now drink my life.
